You still matter – Mental Health Month – May 2018

Each year millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental illness. One in five Americans are affected by mental health conditions and the stigma associated with mental health issues is toxic to their health because it creates an environment of shame, fear, and silence preventing them from seeking help and treatment. The perception of mental illness won’t change until we act to change it. No one deserves to be forgotten, no one deserves to fade away, to disappear!

Currently on Broadway, Dear Evan Hansen, “tells the story of a high school senior with social anxiety who, through a misunderstanding, becomes enmeshed in the aftermath of a classmate’s suicide. Although the plot of musical centers around the titular protagonist and his high school world, the theme of parenthood is also a key component of the show.” (from Huffington Post)

Check out the video, “Disappear” from Dear Evan Hansen performed by Taylor Trensch and Alex Boniello, recorded for Mental Health Month 2018 (lyrics are listed below).

No one deserves to be forgotten
No one deserves to fade away
Even if you’ve always been that barely-in-the-background kind of guy
And even if you’re somebody who can’t escape the feeling

That the world’s passed you by

If you never get around to doing some remarkable thing

That doesn’t mean that you’re not worth remembering
Think of the people who need to know
They need to know

So you need to show them (I need to show them)

That no one deserves to be forgotten

No one deserves to fade away
No one should flicker out or have any doubt
That it matters that they are here
No one deserves (no one deserves)
To disappear… to disappear

Disappear

When you’re falling in a forest

And there’s nobody around
All you want is for somebody to find you
You’re falling in a forest
And when you hit the ground

All you need is for somebody to find you

No one deserves to be forgotten

No one deserves to fade away
No one should flicker out or have any doubt
That it matters that they are here
No one deserves (no one deserves)
To disappear… to disappear

Disappear

No one deserves to be forgotten

No one deserves to fade away
